| As the start of the NFL regular season draws near, at least 11 teams could be facing TV blackouts in their home markets, USA Today reports. NFL rules require games be blacked out in the home market if they are not sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff. The league, according to the newspaper, had 22 games blacked out last year, a five-year high. Five teams, all of which had losing records, were part of the blackouts last season: Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and the St. |

| Veteran Jacksonville cornerback Rashean Mathis may have summed up the feeling by many when during the media interview session on Wednesday, Mathis called the Jaguars' regular season opener against the Denver Broncos this Sunday as "....one of the ... most important games in the franchise history."
Mathis said he was referring to regular season games, as Jacksonville's two AFC Championship games in 1996 and 1999 were obviously bigger in that the Jaguars were one win away from playing in the Super Bowl those years.
But Mathis' strong statement about the importance of this game speaks volumes of why the Jaguars are taking this game so seriously. Coming off a year in which the team was forced to blackout all but one of its games, the Jaguars have already announced a sellout... |
