When the Texans play the Colts in an AFC South game, Houston usually makes just enough bad plays to lose, and Indianapolis makes just enough good plays to win.

The only time the Texans defeated the Colts was a three-point victory in 2006, which was Gary Kubiak's first season as their coach.

The Texans keep getting closer, losing five of the last six by eight or fewer points, including five by six points.

Kubiak believes that to win in the AFC South a team has to be tough mentally and physically on both sides of the ball. On offense, he believes that toughness comes from building a strong running game.

The Carolina Panthers weren't fooling around when they started their youth movement. It's produced the NFL's youngest team. According to STATS LLC, Carolina's average age of 25 years, 233 days is the most youthful in the league based on Wednesday's 53-man rosters. It comes after the Panthers shed numerous veterans -- and payroll -- in the offseason.

Quarterback Matt Leinart, released by the Arizona Cardinals over the weekend, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, ESPN's Chris Mortenson reports. Leinart's agent, Tom Condon, confirmed with The Associated Press that Leinart and the Texans has reached a deal. With Matt Schaub firmly in place as the Houston starter, Leinart looks to be in line for a backup role once again. The Texans did not get good performances out of their backups in the preseason.

Houston Texans With so much uncertainty at backup quarterback with Dan Orlovsky and newly signed Matt Leinart, the coaches don't want to expose starting QB Matt Schaub more than necessary early in the season. Coach Gary Kubiak doesn't want Schaub to lead the league in passing attempts, completions and yardage for a second consecutive season. Kubiak says the best way to keep Schaub healthy is a productive running game.
